Finally got my battery-topper-offer finished. It will freshen up the house batteries in just about an hour, and I'm ready for another day of boondocking. Give a look.

Doyle,
Looks good. What is the amp output of the alternator and what kind of regulator (built into alternator, 3 stage, etc.)? Jack

Doyle, I built one with a 4hp brigs, horz. like yours. But i think it is very loud an vibrates bad. How quiet is that Honda?? The overhead valves help a lot on power an vibration. I have a 60A integral regulator on mine. ralph

It's a Honda-clone made in China (duh!!!) from Harbor Freight ($139.00) It will put out 60amps and is what's called a one-wire hot rod alternator that doesn't use a voltage regulator. When the amps drop off to 20 or 30, I consider it "charged"... probably 12.75-12.8 volts.

ps. It's pretty quiet, just so happens that bay has a vent in it for the batteries, so I drop down the door half way and the exhaust goes through the vent and quiets it even more.

Nice Work Doyle I have a spare one wire 100 amp alternator that could be used for that type of application. Any side view pictures or facing alternator views or belt tightning views ?? :-) :-):-)

Do yourself a big, BIG favor, and install some carbon monoxide
detectors in the coach........ Especially near/above that bay.

Carbon monoxide can sneak up on you after it puts you to sleep.

Carbon DI-oxide is the gas in beer and soda....
carbon MONO-xide is the killer gas..
MONO = one....
DI = two ,
and the 2 couldn't be further apart....
What you meant to say is O2 i'd bet.....

DG- Even at pumping out 60amps at 14.5 volts (where it should be set), that computes out to be 870 watts. Compensate for about 85% efficient, and you have a total power draw of about 1050 watts. One horsepower is 750 watts, so your alternator is drawing about 1.4 horsepower from the engine. Personally, I would increase double the size of your engine pulley and then set the governor on the engine at 1800-2200 rpm. Makes for a much quieter engine and the engine will last forever. Good Luck, TomC

What state of charge ,SOC, can you go from ....to in only an hour?

Most battsets will get 80% to 85% full fairly easily but that last 10% or 15% takes hours.

Operating between 50% SOC and 85% SOC is what most boaters do , at the price of somewhat shorter bat set life , and a reduction in avilable power as the set declines.

Do you Equalize weekly to attempt to slow the decline?

Curiosity...what is the "purpose", advantage, reason for the "hooded door" style?

Maybe I'm missing out on something... :-)
Thanx

If you are referring to the baggage door configuration, that is the way Eagle designed the baggage doors on that model. I do not know the reasoning behind the design. Jack
