Any body know where or who I can go to, to get a insurance appraisal for my 1984 MCI Marathon converted Motor Home. My insurance is up for renewal and I was notified that in case of a claim they would not pay any more than their appraisal no matter how much I was covered for. A lower coverage will mean a lower premium. And the insurance co. will not give a an appraisal on it. Thanks for your help, Roger

Your insurance company -does not- have to accept an outside
appraisal, and in most all cases, -will not-.

Your registry of motor vehicles sets the value, and even if it's too
low, your insurance company will use that for case argument.

Don't waste your money with "third party" schemes.

John,

You're right. I've seen insurance companies use some real flaky values in past 4 wheel claims. Not related to NADA or KBB.

What or who exactly is the "registry of motor vehicles"? Is it supported by the insurance industry?

Thanks.

You can do an agreed value with your insurance company in some instances if you can get documentation to back it up from a appraisal. Of course i have no knowledge if they would pay that. Do a search thru the archives about the various insurance co. What state you are reg. in seems to make a difference. What insurance Co? We now have Progressive handed over from Aon formely Royal etc.

Yep, David....and in my experience, most carriers require a "mechanic's" or other form be completed before they'll even discuss it.

We don't carry Collision or Comp because, while the risk may be there, it seems to me far less than with an auto. (I'm a former Insurance Broker) At my age and experience in life, I do like my dad taught me when I was learning to drive, decades ago (:-):-)) "drive like the other guy is a complete idiot..." :-) :-)

...just my way.

hey chuck, What if we see you coming? What do we do ??? My insurance company said what is it worth and we will try to see if that is acceptable to submit. Then they came up with the price and I had a heart attack and said I wanted the liability only with max coverage. They liked that even better and so did I.

Progressive has gone back and forth on mine. First they wanted market value, then they wanted agreed value. It was cheap and I just want the coverage.

Market value is hard to nail-down.

If you are paying for $50 value, if lost, you should get $50.

DO NOT accept anything less than agreed upon value. I learned.
