I live in Wyoming with lots of Mtns. and I have an MCI 5C with a 6v71 and an Allison 740 that I have just finished converting. I am able to get a use Jake brake with heads for $800 dollars for my 6V. And I am also able to get a rebuildable 6V92 for $1800. Are these good prices, and will the 6V92 really help a lot for Mountain passes? |

Before buying the 6V92, make sure it's a "Silver" series. The earlier "Green" motors had reliability issues. Serial number on the block should be F86000 or higher. If it's a sliver, rebuild it to 350 hp specs, upgrade the cooling system, hook it to the 740, and away you'll GO! (This configuration is about 100 hp and 250 ftlbs of torque greater output than your 6V71 motor.) 8V motors, either 71 or 92s won't fit w/ that Allison. HTH, RJ PD4106-2784 Fresno CA |

My understanding is that switching to a 6V92 in an MC-5 with auto is a serious modification. The air boxes must be raised to clear the turbo, more cooling, etc. |

George It is all most imposable to do with out a lot off cost. About 5 K and then you will have problems. Been there and done that. Fred North Florida Bus Conversion |
