Just saw a couple nice looking busses on the auction site www.wisconsinsurplus.com from the department of corrections. I have no interest in this except maybe someone could get a good deal on a bus. | ||

For those who aren't already familiar with the MC-12, these are basically a 96A3 from the floor down and an MC-9 from the floor up. Biggest order went to Greyhound, but quite a few were built as PTVs (Prisoner Transport Vehicles). FWIW. . .  | ||

If I may, I have read that the 12's were designed to Greyhounds need for a inexpensive coach during their dire times. The maintenance had suffered during this time as well, thus pre-buy inspection is critical. | ||

Good advice on any bus buy (pre-inspection). I wasn't familier with 12's at all. Thanks for the info. | ||

I dunno. I'm looking at the photos of the way the Department of Corrections outfitted them with cages for prisoner transport. I'm thinking this could come in darn handy when I make some of the longer trips with my three young sons. | ||

From the pictures, this pair are well equipped and a busnut will be very appreciative of them. The bidding prices are quite favorable at the moment. Low mileage chassis, and typically these are well maintained, can't afford the trouble of a roadside breakdown with some of the "cargo". That big back door would make getting a big house fridge in real nice.... happy coaching! buswarrior | ||

BW, You are correct with regarding the maint. I must have had my head in the clouds as this is not Greyhound owning and selling these coaches. They have enjoyed better maint. I agree that cargo and a breakdown, that PA system might not keep passengers in line. | ||

I notice the MC-12 is a 1996 and it has a 6V-92. I thought Detroit stopped selling two strokes before 1996? I've never seen a bus before past 1994 with a two stroke. They have all had Series 60 or other four stroke engines. (Message edited by belfert on March 03, 2009) |
