No problems only a pan gasket leak, gasket being replaced. BTW, my wife is under there with me, she is a pretty good mechanic in her own right. We'll on the road again April 2nd. More MMAP'n. | ||

Holy crap, thats our type of rig, John it has a 4-71 Detroit 0-60 in 2 miles gets 10-12mpg no fooling, if its got the 4 valve head all the better for power! check front end and bearings, nice ride (no air)we love ours so much we are doing the repower thing to her. Long Island misses you. Hope all is well | ||

forgot to say its a GM 3700 series from the look of it ours is a 3703 1948.Engine is t drive not an angle, Has a clark 4 speed tough to find parts for that was our main reason for the repower. not a lot of storage down below but a good driving old coach. I could go on forever... shouldent have stopped home for lunch. | ||

I just built an enclosure for my genset. Looks pretty good, sounds VERY quiet, and keeps my 2 and a half year old out of the parts! Now I just need to get flexible conduit to button everything up. Glenn | ||

Glenn put your genny on a slide tray. Mine was not and I have to take the five hundred pound monster clear out to check to see whats wrong. A slide would have made a five minute job which has turned into hours and hours. Larry | ||

I'll get some pictures up tomorrow, since it got dark before I could get to it. I would have liked to have done a slide, but I couldn't go for the expense. I did design the doors to give me access to anything I need to do. For circulation, I have 2 115cfm pancake fans - on drawing fresh air in from the bay at the engine end, and the exhaust pulling air out below the gen head. Moves the heat out nicely. The genset is a 1965 Kohler marine unit with a water cooled exhaust manifold. It runs at 170 degrees. After a half hour of running, I can put my hand on the plywood - even on the inside once the doors are opened! Nice and cool! Glenn In case I may not have been clear, this is a liquid cooled genset with a remotley mounted radiator in the old AC compartment. No way this enclosure would work on an air cooled unit! Hey David! Yeah, I miss Lun Gisland too, but I can't afford to move back. I bought my 66 Mercedes 190d from a guy in Halesite back in 1969. We lived in Huntington back then, just off Lawrence Hill Rd. I passed on that 47 GMC. The interior pix indicated a world of work for me. The outside needed sanding and paint, and it's been sitting for too long. He was asking 9,500 for it, as-is. Not a dreadful price for a rig that qualifies for Antique plates, but I had to quit my project due to health stuff, and this one would have required at least as much as my old MC9. | ||

Well John you wont believe this thats my home, Halesite. And today we were working on Lawrence Hill Rd #34 on old ranch on the right heading towards Cold Spring. Halesite has lost a lot of her old charm its not really a self contained little village anymore. Any bus is a $ pit but glad your still looking around. And again thanks for the link it made my day seeing another 3700. |
