I am considering removing my bus a/c system. Can anyone tell me how much I could expect to get for: 1. the compressor 2. the condensor 3. the freon (R-12) 4. anything else of value? As always... Thanks for the help!! MR 81 MC-9 |

Has anyone tried to make a air compressor out of the old a/c compressor. |

I gave mine to a local charter company. The deal was they took all or nothing. They took a full 24' enclosed trailer worth of stuff that came out of the bus. Would have cost me a fortune to get rid of it otherwise. Wish I could have sold the AC, but it was worth giving it away to get rid of the stuff no one wanted. Ross '80 MC9 |

Mark, Amos at the Vehicle Clinic will purchase your R-12. A full charge will get about $300.00. I recall that even though I had a "unique" Thermo-King rather than a more common Carrier compressor, he paid about 150.00 for it. Got something like 175.00 for the condensor (that is a $2000.00 part new) however, my evaporator was not worth more than the scrape value. This did require two trips; one with bus to have the R12 sucked out, then after I removed the AC components another trip with a truck. Removing this stuff is alot easier than getting the holding tank out. If you make the trip from Grand Rapids (I think that's were you're at) drop me a note and maybe you can stop by Pontiac. Overall, getting rid of the stuff from the bus worked out well for me. Over 500.00 worth of scrap metal, a nice tax deduction for the seats (donated to a church with MC-9's) and the above. Two months after I sold my condensor to Amos, the operator of the church's mc9's came by to offer me $1000.00 for it. Timing is everything. FWIW Steve G. MC-9 Pontiac |

Compressor and condenser, if in verifiable working order, and for a coach still widely in commercial service, it would be more than fair to get close to core value. Remember, the coach company is in business, you are not and they have the upper hand, since their broken compressor has core value on the trade in, and they're going to spend their money anyway. Used AC parts are of dubious value to a large commercial operation, since their reliability cannot be counted on. Now, a small shoestring operation might be interested in your parts, but not in a high price. So, see what you can recover for some fuel money, don't set out to pay for your new pure sine wave inverter with the proceeds. happy coaching! buswarrior |
