I'm running a 5402 with a 8V-71 w/V-730. The rig originally had a 6V-71 with the same oil immersed generator. Does anyone have any knowledge as to the output of this generator? I can not find a number on it. Yes, it works fine and has worked for the last twelve years of full timing.

I have a chance of increasing my Heart Interface 1000 watt to a Trace 1500 watt and do not want to overload the generator while underway.

I could just run the onan water cooled diesel but then that is overkill.

Thanks in advance,

Al

Al, so far as I know, those generators are self limiting and are not likely to be overloaded. Also, the oil cooling should provide all the cooling that they need.

Make sure that the leads and connections stay in good shape, as that seems to me to be the way that you might hurt anything.

I would expect that the generator's output would be enough to handle the Trace if the coach is not providing the current originally used in air handling. For example, the 4106 generator is 220 amps, I believe. There were two 75 amp blowers under the floor.

For what it's worth.

Al,
It depends on the stator and field that is used in the alternator. Most of the 50DN Delco's that we use in our transit fleet are 12 Volt 300 amps or 24volt 270 amps.
