I have mine open. For those who have never seen this open, like me (and I have had my bus for 8 years), here is it. I can clearly see the value of this hatch. Now, I need to reconstruct my bed platform to allow easy access to this hatch. You can see the sawdust from my carpentry work to get to where you see it now. I share this for others in the process of converting. My bus will never be done, because that is my nature, but I am now in phase two and want to get my "useable" coach into something more appealing to my wife's eye. |

Larry, I've seen that view many times, I also have a 1/4 inch thick layer of lead sheet over that area after the panel go'es onto place, makes for better noise and heat rejection.>>>Dan |

Lead will do wonders for noise and some high heat rejection insulation is a must; use something that won't burn, as an engine fire would make that area pretty hot. If you don't use some good insulation, after a couple of hour trip in hot weather and no nightly AC available, that bed will be very warm till about 3AM. On the bright side, it will be dry heat. |

Hey, Larry. Thank you very much for sharing that pic. I have had my 06 for almost 5 years and have yet to venture into that area covered by nighstand etc. I will have to someday soon, but now I know what to expect. |

Where and at what cost can you get lead sheets? |

Not sure about cost, but most roofing supply places sell it (at least down here in Florida, they do). They have it in 1# or 2# (per square foot). i haven't purchased any for several years, so I can't comment of price. |

McMaster-Carr sells it online in different thicknesses and size. Good, fast service. |

If you're going to use lead for sound absorbtion, and you want the best performance, you want to mount it on something flexible, like foam (ala Soundown Co) The way it works is lead has mass and reacts to the sound waves and the foam rubber converts the vibrating lead (from the sound) to heat. Gary, Trying to stay out of "trouble" and learning how to better suffer fools (myself, that is :^)) RJ Long and I have been taking turns giving seminar's at Jacks and Busn'USA gatherings. So, I haven't been "away" really, but I have been keeping my head down, so to speak. Oh, yes, I have been equipping the shop. Next in line on the "wish list" will be Yoder, Pullmax and Erco metalworking equipment. |

Mark, Good luck in your ventures, I too have been keeping below surface at times for same reasons. Look forward to seeing you and RJ at Jacks this coming Xmas rally at Arcadia. Take care, good luck again. Gary |
