Hay "Best and Brightest" A question about an Onan 7.5kw genset.I am going to use it for 220vac to run my welder. It is set up for Natgas right now but when the guy I bought it from was tryed to start it he had a very hard time. Can you tell by the serial# if it has the high comp pistons or reg comp pistons?

I'd suggest you call the local Onan dealership... They'd be able to give you more solid information about your unit. When I was running my 12.5Kw unit, they were an invaluable source of information...

Another thing I'd suggest is to get the service manual for your genny... They can usually be had on eBay for a few bucks. Money well spent...

Doug...that is now Cummins...they own ONAN..FWIW. Usually pretty helpful, but then.....I've found most helpful info on "the boards"...:-( :-)

Check the point gap.

I had one that had no gap?? I don't see how it ran but it would for about 30min, then quit.
