As most of you know... I recently had to manually energize the positive bus bar in the engine compartment... I did this by tying into the post on top of the alternator. When I took the bolt off to toss in an eye loop for the connection, it also loosened the post itself. I didn't realize this when I was working on it.... After running it for a while, I had a sizable puddle under the bus that wasn't there previously... I thought "Uhoh"... Upon closer inspection, the alternator was now covered in oil! By loosening the post, it allowed an oil leak to present itself by losing the seal on that post... It has a nut on the bottom of the post that looks like it's supposed to be part of the seal... I took the top nut off, removed the wires and carefully tightened the lower nut back down. After reassembly... no more leak. Just a thought for anyone else that has an oil cooled alternator...
