....Gomer...UR at it, YET again!!!!! Pancake= amidships (CROWN, Peterbilt, and perhaps others) engine, laid on it's side with the Radiator on the driver side, not direct engine dirven, mounted on a cross frame member(not in line with the engine, but in the same plane, belt driven).....whew. Got it? Spent the ENTIRE day, cutting bolts and just attempting to get things ready to put in the fan( 24inch) Not real sure it can be done with just one person, but::::: Pray for me.... I'm in Las Cruces, NM if some one wants to have a learning experience.... Thanx for your...uh...remarks...(hey...got to keep things "lite", right?) RCB |

RC GOT IT!!! I had a friend that had an old flex that had something like that and it was a booger to grease let alone work on. Do you need a fan? I may know where I can find one. Just let me know. Thanks Thanks for the comment, I always felt that if you keep an open mind and spirit then you can think a lot better, I use the thought that God is in control and that if you trust in Him in ALL things you can accomplish anything you do. Thanx, George...been wanting to rid myself of that wild critter for years...finally got her!.. and it only cost me $150 so for (new fan and some bolts)...and lots of WORK! Marvin without any question, this has been the absolute toughest job (for one man)that I have undertaken with this conversion, including re-siding with 10 foot sheets of steel and rebuilding the trunk door. I still haven't gotten the fan assembly remounted in the coach It is all put together and in position ready to be hoisted, but lifting it into place is going to be the trick. Today, Lord willing. (HE was sure testing my KOOL yesterday.) Thanx for the offer of a fan, but done a'ready. RCB |

A question for the "pancake" owners..Doug, Frank, anyone else...listen up..Please?? How much clearance do you have,,,or know should be,,,in the fan enclosure, between the tip of the blade and the structure? I have the fan mounted and in place, but cannot seem to get the unit to the middle of the enclosure, which means the fan is touching the enclosure on one half. As I tighten the adjusting bolt, the fan assembly wants to move to a slight angle and prevents the alignment mentioned above. I have spent muchas hours on this and do not give up easily so am going to keep "trying". BTW, I have an access panel in the floor above the unit and can see that as the assembly is moved to center, it goes out of line at an angle. Is that clear as the Mississippi? If I could post a pic or two, I would, but haven't figured out just how one goes about showing detail on a 150x150...(I note others come across with huge pics in other threads)...guess it is just one more sign...maturity has for sure set in! Thanx for all input....careful here fellows...constructive, please!! RCB (Message edited by chuckllb on May 22, 2009) |

RC!! could it be possible that the blade is too far up or down? Maybe just spacing it would solve the problem. When I put in replacement motors, the space of the fan usually is about a quarter of the way in the housings. Is this a squirell type of a fan blade? I have had to space the housing also to align the things up also. Also some units have the clamp that tightens up with 2 sides and you may tighten one or the other and align it that way.. Just a thought?? Gomer |

Gomer...you just gave me an idea...the "housing" (bracket) that the shaft sits in has a bolt hole on each end. Only one (toward the inside) is used due, I presumed, to "room" for a long bolt, or perhaps for use in a right hand left hand situation.... Now, I wonder if I could use a short bolt to work in juxtaposition to the other...in other words to, perhaps work to push against the shaft from the opposite side, thus bringing it into alignment..don't know; guess I'll mull on it a day or two before going back at it. Your remark abotu the shape of the blade may be the exact cause. The former blade was flat in the center, with the blades being at the usual angle, The new blade has the same bolt pattern, but is thick (deep, like a bowl) where the blades start....but the entire unitI can't seem to get the whole assembly centered, east/west without the shaft angling....which causes the extremity of the blade to ride against the enclosure,....yatita, yatita, yatita, yakitty, yak.. Jerry, am grateful to you for checking it out. Wish I could enlarge the pic of your coach...if you have one, send it to me via regular email...I'd like to see it. Thanx to you both. RCB |

I will send you a photo of the fan from the back side. I don't know how yours mounts but mine is adjusted from side to side to tighten the belts. if the belts got too long the blades hit the side of the housing. There looks to be about an inch of space between the blades and the housing. Good luck Jerry http://www.crowncoach.bravehost.com |
