I am interested in installing a door handle and lock system on a one piece MCI door. I would like to leave the air opener and closer system intact and add a handle to use when we are out of the coach. I am concerned that when the air door is closed, that the extra handle must remain unlocked as it would interfere with the air door opening when I activate the switch. I have tried to access the archives to determine what handle I need with no success. So there it is, does anyone know what handle I would need?

I have seen, I believe on this board, an article about using a truck door lock assembly. Also, Jack Conrad has a similar door lock on his bus.

"I would like to leave the air opener and closer system intact and add a handle to use when we are out of the coach." I don't know about your bus, but my 102 with pneumatic operated door is very stiff to manually open/close without air. My wife can't do it.

I like the pneumatic operation and plan to have air all the time for bags and air accessories. I saw a 102 owner with RF key fob to open/close the door remotely from outside the coach. You should have an emergency claw release to open the door in the front utility cabinet accessible from the outside. So you still need a dead bolt for security. My door has a built in handle.

Invest in driver, wiring, maintenance, and body manuals. They are pricey but necessary for this coach.

Roy: Does your 102 have a factory keyed lock on the door now?
If so use a power (electric door type) actuator to lock & unlock the factory locking unit this will keep the door shut when there is no air. You can disable the outside door switch at the same time when lock.

Chuck: Was the 102 with keyless fob Blue with red & blue ribbons on it? if so it's mine.

Bruce, I do not have the factory lock system currently, but, I believe I could get one from ABC. Your suggestion sounds like a good one. Are you talking about a power door lock from a car or truck that you could get at any auto wrecker?

No slide lock lever. Mine is an 87. I'm looking in my book to see if I can find what you are referring to.

I am in the process of doing mine.

I bought a new Peterbilt inside and keyed outside handles and a "Bear claw" mechanism.

You can use any handle with the "bear claw" manual or power

eBay item# 330338456545 is an example.

Order the installation kit with it and its a piece of cake.

I just mounted a dead bolt in the door above the factory hand grab.
