So i have a 1979 rts with 8v71 non-turbo
For some time been having problems of losing power steering oil out of the system and haven't been able to find where and how I keep losing the fluid. Well last trip home from the lake pullied into the driveway and opened the hatch and found oil all over the pump. So the qustion is do the pumps go bad or is there a seal that I need to replace or what, all of the hose appears in good shape with no leaks noted. Do I just pull the pump and have it rebuild and new seals or ??????

Probably leaking from the shaft seal & the centrifuge force trow it around. rig a carton or some kind of shield over the shaft(can be just partly covering) & run it. You may see a stray of oil.
good luck wrench

Our PS pump (MCI MC-8) was leaking and we found the problem was the O ring on the pressure relief valve. I would clean the area around the pump with brake cleaner and try to find the exact source of the leak. Our leak only required removing the cotter pin, pulling the valve replace then O ring and re-install. Hopefully, your leaks will also be a simple repair. Jack

If it IS the pressure relief valve plug as Jack says, be careful to keep the spring and plunger from flying out when you remove the plug. I jest went through this. The o ring leaked but only when the steering was maxed out at right or left side. My plunger & spring shot out & landed on the ground. I put them back in reversed when I reassembled them & had no pressure (full bypass when wrong!) Of course, you can't get the plunger out with the pump mounted so had to R & R again. If you open the system, be prepared to have an air lock when you reassemble. "Da Book" says lift the front tires off the ground & run steering back & forth 'till air works it's way out. We didn't because it was O.K. in the drive but lost power steering soon after leaving & had manual steering for 500 miles till the air worked it's way out. Fine on the road but you have to be a gorilla in parking lots!

I have several RTS power steering reservoirs, there rebuilt by the city of Albuquerque and were made for RTS 06 1989, but they should work for your 1979. Double check the part# I listed it in the classifieds under Misc. for $48.75
