We have an 8V-92 TA a mechanical (non computer) It looks like the fuel pump is drivin off the end of one of the blower impellers.

Has anyone ever removed one and if so does it simply slide off a spline shaft or is it more complicated then that?

It is a small low pressure pump anyone know what they cost or if they can be rebuilt?

Thanks in advance.

Joe, they come off easy remove the 3 bolts it has a square shaft with a fork that slides off.
A new pump is around a 100 bucks the last one I bought.
It is a gear type pump and produces about 65 lbs of pressure. You can by a rebuilt from a Detroit dealer.
what is wrong with yours ? good luck

I am not pumping any fuel. I have recently noticed it doesn't fire immediately up but required some cranking. Now it wont fire at all.

I have 1 length of #8 aeroquip line that could have a crack and may be allowing air in I will see tomorrow. If it is not that I will test the pump by putting a short hose on the suction side of the pump to a 5 gal fuel can.

Are they prone to failure. We have a factory re-man engine but the bus has 225000 and I believe the pump would have been used off the original engine at the time of the rebuild but I could be wrong.

Filters are all clean I have already eliminated the obvious

Joe, they are not prone to failure often but they do fail.
Most of the time it is fork the square shaft hole rounds out .
If your test fails check the fork and the pump.
I check the pump by chucking it into a drill and turning checking for pickup and pressure. good luck

What Peter says, that would be the first place to look.

Lots of stuff on the board about losing prime.
