I know some of you have run into this but I'm stumped.
I have 1 bay on the drivers side of my 4501 that now has been converted into a electric bay, fuse panale, invertor and charger is in there. Prob. the bay door is huge and the generator is in there too. i know its not a good setup. Anyone have any ideas of how to close it so its air tight?
if you kow about the bays you know they go from side to side, the elect panals have to be open for cooling..and ideas besides moving the genset?

Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving to all

Pete - If you have a divider wall between the gen set and the rest of it put some bulbseal on the edge of the divider that is forced against the bay door. As for cooling, have you considered a fan?

The fan is being placed on the electric side..i was tolk that gas fumes are hard to keep out of an electric area. The divder is there but im worried about the gas fumes..I guess i could put the fan blowing from the electric side to the gen set..

Just thinking out loud here, but it would seem that if the genset is drawing air from the inside of the compartment and exhausting to the outside, there would be a negative pressure in that compartment and there would not be much of a fume buildup. I could see using an exhaust fan in one or both of the compartments to keep the air clean and cool, but wonder if that's overkill. If the compartments are well isolated and reasonably seal off, and the generator side is well ventilated, why should there be a problem?

Cause they are in the same large bay..seperated by plywood for now..I'm getting a new genset soon and going to insulate the generator comptand vent it. Your right about the draw tho.
theres no other place to put the genset and the only chase i could find was thru the ducts of the oridiginal air/heat to run all the wires to one central location..airgo..elect panal next to the genset. I have a few old 12 v fans taken out of some sports cars that im going to rig up but they cant run all the time to keep the fumes out..
I'm just looking for ideas to be safer

Thanks

Pete, why not use 115VAC fans and hook them direct to the gen set? That way they would only run when the gen set runs and there is no battery drain.

What im worried about is the gas fumes traveling from one side of the compartment to the other into the elect bow..the fumes from gas will still flow evenly threw the compartment wont they?
my generator smells like gas alot..theres a vent in the top of the cap..im not worried about the exaust fumes..thats not a problem..i just dont want to be the first 4501 scenicruiser adjoined to the space station..lol

Pete,
I am guessing here, but are you using a gasoline fueled generator with the gas tank attached to the generator? If that is where the gas fumes are coming from can you just vent the gas cap to the outside with a hose? I can see why you don't want gas fumes in your electrical compartment, maybe a vent hose is an answer.

Sam..im going to fugure out where i can put it..i hadn't thought of that..
yea..the gfas tank is on the generator..and i dont like it there..but venting the cap and putting an outside fill might do the trick..thanks..ill let you know tommorrow if it works
