On the rear intake side of my 671 dd I have engine vacuum pumping out and dripping oil and low power. It's coming out of a brass fitting about 6 inches up from the oil pan and 5 inches forward from the bell housing. Any ideas?

It sounds like an air box drain tube fitting on the side of the block. Only its not vacuum, it is excess pressure from the blower. The oil could be from bad blower seals or piston ring problems. Low power? 6-71's don't have much power to begin with so that is yet to be determined...

You don't say what kind of bus you have or how much oil is coming out. A small amount is normal for a DD 2 cycle. You will never have a vacuum in 2 cycle engine. A 671N is not a power house but they are one good engine. If your oil consumption is low don't worry about it.

I have a 1960 GM 4104. Used 1 gallon of oil in 300 miles. I have worked on a 4 cylinder diesel but not this one. It's a 6V71.

Consumed? Did the engine burn it, or blow it? Try leaving the oil down on the stick about a gallon of galloon and a half. No, it won't hurt it, just read your owners manual, and you will find that minimum oil cap. is 3 1/2 gal. (don't run it that way though) Most Detroits will throw the first gallon in a few hundred miles (mine does) thereafter consumption drops to about a quart every 600 to 800 miles, and this is not excessive at all, for a Detroit with a few miles on it. Cheers...JJ
