any thoughts on creating storage above the bed?

-transplant the luggage racks from above the windows , allowing one to walk the window isle, don't really need a lot of headroom over the bed,

~also under the bed frame install some draws

+ perhaps even double duty as aux.water storage (remove the draws & install water bed liner).

~Must be built so as not to restrict engine repair & service access, eaily removable with just four bolts.

"don't really need a lot of headroom over the bed"

UMMM, Just too many things to be said in response to that.....

Anywhere you can get extra storage is good. But remember, anything overhead will have a tendency to fall down. Just make sure the racks and the items stored there are secure. You don't want something falling onto an unsuspecting sleeping person.

My solution is to build the bed higher and put more storage underneath, if done right even the step up can be a trunk space.. Also you need to be able to sit up and stretch in order to enjoy a bed, there are a few other issues as well making head room pretty important ;)

I always thought the bed should be folded up using murphy bed frame, allowing the space to be used both for sleeping and living room area.

I had it elevated about 36" at one point and crawling in to access my bags were real PITA...
