This is mostly directed to Ian, but maybe of interest to others? Just wondering if you're going to continue the open registration for BNO Facebook on weekends? Or must I send each one an invite? Secondly - in linking the BNO URL (what I THOUGHT was the primary URL) I discovered it's directed to some other outfit using the same name (how does THAT happen?). Didn't know if you knew about this? I suspect you may have pasted busnuts.com rather than busnut.com They are indeed two different sites. Anyone can register a domain name that is slightly different than another. |

Yeah, Tim - I figured the same thing, but when I went back to check it was definitely singular, not plural. BTW, I didn't type it, but copied it from the same Google link I've used forever. Never happened before, but it sure happened this time. Nellie |

Hi Nellie, Yes, I'm thinking of leaving the registration open for all of November based on the email requests suggesting just that. Stay tuned! And just so you know, yes, anyone registered can invite anyone else, using the "Invite" tab on their BNO Facebook page. It is not necessary to ask me; anyone can ask anyone who is already registered. They don't even need to be bus nuts or even interested in our hobby. Invite any family member or friend and you only have to put them on your "friends list" and vice versa. Your "friends" won't see anything anyone else is talking about, except your updates and other comments. If the landing page from the link you are providing is going somewhere else other than to the BNO home page at http://www.busnut.com then the link has been copied incorrectly or has become corrupt. Curiosity: Where is the viewer going after clicking the link you are providing? Ian www.busnut.com |

Ian - It's weird, to say the least. A couple times got a popup: "Page cannot be displayed." I hit the "Try Again" button and this "Bus Nuts" (plural) site appears. And this isn't from manually typing in the URL, it's from clicking on Google search. I've now eliminated the problem by adding /bbs to the root URL. Works every time when I do that. BTW, that Bus Nut(S) site doesn't have much to offer - wondering if it's defunct? Nellie PS. Glad you're considering open registration PPS. You might want to update your opening BBS page? It says folks can comment without registering but - as I recall - that's no longer the case? Sorry to be such a pest, but I have an ulterior motive. I'm going to ad your link(s) to my Google Blogs, so I want your rankings to SOAR. And truly, you deserve to be ranked MUCH higher -your sites are really GREAT but shielded from public view. And - IMHO - much of your content has broad appeal: RVers (though we diminish them); truckers (though they're know-it-alls ); and automotive hobbyists in general. And, I'd guess, for an untold number of Baby-Boomers wondering what to do with the balance of their years. But, hey, that's just me. Hugs |

Nellie, do you like SPAM and posts full of ads? I, and many others on these busnut boards do not. Ian has done an amazing job of keeping this board and our e-mail addresses well protected from the infiltrators who want to sell us all viagra and porn. Whatever it is he does is for our protection, and it works! It is ONLY because of Ian's efforts, historical and present, that I have an e-mail contact listed here. If security is carelessly broached, what busnut is going to leave contact info on here? Forcing some registration interaction is part of what keeps your inbox empty, and the posts on here from being garbage ads. If a prospective busnut doesn't have enough effort or patience to do a little registration interaction, how they gonna finish a conversion? Many, many of the viewers here just come to read, and have no desire to write. Don't be fooled into thinking the only activity here is measured in posts. This site is great because the posts are on average, of high quality and about buses. I wouldn't want to trade that for some other places that waste a lot of my clicking time reading social chit chat and posts full of meaningless emoticons just so we can risk losing more viewers than we gain in useless writing. happy coaching! buswarrior |

Nellie - I know Nels, the owner of the "busnuts" (plural) site. I'll give him a call and see what's going on. Now, as for you ending up on Nel's site when you're headed for Ian's, somewhere along the line you've accidentally added the "s" when you typed in a URL. Besides what you've done, another suggestion is to go into your "Tools" section of your browser, be it IE or FireFox, and clear out your Temporary Internet files and your cache. But beware - make sure you know your user IDs & passwords for the various sites you access on a regular bases, because clearing out the cache will also wipe those items out of your computer's memory. This little housekeeping task should be done periodically anyway, keeps the 'puter running smoother and eliminates junk you don't need. You can also clean things up this way: Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup. And after DC finishes, then follow the same path back, but choose Disk Defragmenter to put the polish on the drive. Oh, and I agree w/ Buswarrior - not a fan of spam or the garbage found on some of the other, non-bus related, bbs sites. FWIW & HTH. . .

Gosh, BW - Who blew YOUR skirt up? You needn't defend Ian's efforts to ME... if you re-read my post, all I did was COMPLIMENT the guy. If you read the previous post, we're (Ian & myself, BTW ) discussing continuing open registration through November... not eternity. Your points, though, are well taken... and I agree for the most part. But, hey, what's wrong with viagra and porn? Nellie PS. Whoever left me the 5 stars, bless you. XXOO |

Nellie, Your public call out to "lower the drawbridge" has the potential to increase our collective exposure. I was defending Ian's methods to those who don't realize how they are able to surf here without picking up bugs or having their e-mail filled up. Ian is too modest in telling us the amount of expensive time he has to regularly spend clearing through the attempts to infiltrate BNO, and keeping the defenses updated. What signs have you seen that an attack has been attempted on BNO? Isn't it nice that we have no idea? Nor has Ian told us what he has to do differently to protect us by taking the registration off for the sake of "convenience". This is a serious topic, not just an inconvenience. happy coaching! buswarrior |

From what i have heard, those folks that need and use viagra have seen, (pardon the pun, but i had to do it!) a BIG difference in their life. :>) As for porn, i think it can be very educational.....:>) |

Well, I guess if we are voting, I'm with BW and RJ. There are a ton of sites with millions of people on them if numbers is what your looking for. I appreciate the bus content and the respectable demeanor of the folks on here and wouldn't trade that for all the rankings in the cyber world. |

It simply amazes me - truly - how something so simply put in black & white (my post) can be so wildly misconstrued. "Your public call out to 'lower the drawbridge'"? Good grief! Isn't that just a pinch over the top? What 'public call out?' What 'drawbridge?' Everybody here knows (or certainly should know by now) I love everything about BNO... just the way it is. And my post says nothing to suggest the contrary. But unlike yourself, I don't view this site as my own private little fishing hole; it's a river of information. (It is, after all, the INTERNET.) It's also a business. And affording people an opportunity to LOOK doesn't give them access to the stream... for that, they need (AS ALWAYS) permission. Clear? Fact of Life: Much of Ian's success depends on attracting 'unique visitors.' Which translate into advertising revenue. Which translates into Ian's continued willingness to run this thing. Which translates into joyful little Bus Nut darlings (us). I, for one, would like to help in this chain of happy consequences. If Ian wishes otherwise, he can surely let me know. In hindsight, I should have kept this private. Henceforth, I shall (just to avoid the busybody factor). I'd ask one thing of future readers: Launch your response from what I actually wrote, not from the subsequent nutty misinterpretations of what I wrote. And, hey, John & Barb: Nobody's calling for a vote about anything. I totally agree with the basic thesis of both RJ & BW. What ticks me off is the inference that I DON'T! Gomer: Thank you for the support (we obviously have a reader in the crowd). Your Uncharacteristically Agitated Friend, Nellie |

Just like you Nellie, I have a right to express my opinion. If my opinion differs from yours then so be it, but no reason to flame me in these posts. I prefer the sanity and reason and bus related banter that has always been a part of this website. That is not true of all of them and I think that opening it up to anyone whether they have any interests in busses or not is asking for trouble. Your normally agitated freind, John |

Wow, I don't think I've ever seen or been on a web site that didn't want more users? This is very strange. Ian has made registering a step too complicated for web bots, and if you don't want your email address known DON'T POST IT or at least not in a way that a bot would see it, but as for me I post my website wherever I can (http://DieselBusParts.com) if you wish to email me: ken@ my website.com, thats not hard for you to figure out, but a bot will never figure it out. Ken |
