Ok i have spent several sessions searching and reading the archives (lots of fun, no kidding)but really would like REAL input on the floor aft. We had a repower and dont have much more than the framework over the trans and rear diff. right now. I need to seal for water, heat and noise. Plus i have to keeep an inspection hatch. I want to insulate and i am probably gonna do some stringers with insulation inbetween. there are too many choices and i need to get busy here.should i put aluminum down first to reflect most of the heat then insulation between stringers then ply on top? Ply on bottom? close door to rear and just drive? MULTCN? indoor outdoor carpet? any help would be appreciated.Thanks.

Mine has sheet medal then plywood then Insulation board and the last is indoor outdoor carpet seems to work good! this was done in the 80s I think their is a roll of insulation now that is better at sound and heat cold! Its like the board but more Rs and also more durable.

Aluminum is a thermal conductor.

Ok home from work early and from all the posts here no one has a floor in their buses over the engine area! Just kidding. Jim so the aluim.wont reflect the heat it will hold the heat? I cant insulate from underneath it has to be on top of the floor. Ok back to work.

I'd want aluminum for the firewall surface facing the engine. Make sure it isn't too thin, since it provides rigidity and moderate fire spread protection. The buses usually use plywood after that. Then, depending on how important noise is in the bedroom, you could add a thin layer of sheet lead or one of the reasonably equivalent materials for noise and vibration, then, if it was mine, I'd use something like AC duct board in one to two inch thickness. I'm leary about using urethane foam board or bead board over the engine. Your opinion of that application may vary. Here is a site that has sound deadening materials and their db or sound reduction ratings.

look around on the pages; they are a great company to deal with and shipping times here in central Pa. is incredible.

Take a look at Soundown.

If you want QUIET! their 2lb lead with 2 inch insulation really works well.

But its Yacht priced , even for dealers.

I have used soundown for some projects. They have a large variety of quality products.

Their cousomer service is second to none.

They will overnight you a very large and comprehensive sample box of their products.

Ya wont be disapointed.

Our hatch is a frame of angle iron holding 3/4 in plywood that was first layered in a rubber mat sealed with thin clear plastic on the bottom side, Prevost did that.

The converter added a thin lead sheet (thru the entire rear floor not just the hatch) and another rubber mat of their own on top of that.

Then carpet pad, carpet and a full carpet cover.

Soundown has all of it and more, headliner ect.

It is pretty quiet back there. The carpet pad is hands down the most durable, dense, quality pad I have ever seen You can no way tear and it will hurt your hand cutting it.

Soundown doesn't have that and I would love to learn of a supplier as I think this stuff goes a long way towards all the goals we shoot for in your floor project.

It could be wool but that is a guess.

We have a rear kitchen so when you are standing at the sink you are standing on that cover. I have a different plan for ours. It will be very unique.
