This is by far, the easiest and most fool-proof way of doing it:

BX8869 Blue Ox Bulb and Socket Tail Light Wiring Kit
Does not tap into vehicle existing wiring, simple to install,
fits most vehicles with clearance in taillight housing, operated
by the towing vehicle.

wire kit

http://www.towingworld.com/Accessories/wiring.htm

You can use 12 or 24vdc bulbs, or use LED retrofit.
You have to drill a hole in the light assy of the vehicle,
and add the bulb mount in the hole.

Thomas
John has the best way. If you use diodes they drop the voltage slightly resulting in dim lights. How would your wife know if you were just hooking up a wire or drilling a hole to put in a socket? I'm sure you were able to get away with other things before like that time ----.

I have a magnetic mount set of tow lights that I put on top of the hatch and the wire runs in the hatch, out the front door and plugs in the back of the bus. Pretty simple and no holes. BTW(I have some testicles I am not using anymore, I have been married more than 30 years and my wife goes to Women Empowerment Seminars) lol

In that case Tom, let her sit in the car and work the lights herself.

I just got a brand new Big Screen HDTV for my wife.

LOL...

John MC9, I was thinking the same thing!! Maybe she can sit in the car while under tow - she'll have a nice seatbelt too!! - and when you hit the brakes or blinkers on the bus Tom, she can mimmic your actions in the CR-V!!

I'm SOOOO glad that my wife has a sense of humor and appreciates my eccentric personality!! And she's had her fair share of wild purchases too, and she even likes the bus!!!

Chessie -

An additional $600 is what the INITIAL cost was above and beyond the sale price of the bus...

Tom -

The real question is what is it going to cost you in the long run, as it seems wifey has still not forgiven you for buying the bus in the first place!! I think you need to plan a road trip - FAST, so she can see that motor coaching really is a fun hobby.

Just my thoughts, but as Fast Fred says...DO IT YOUR WAY!!!!

Good Luck!

At first I had the car wired with its' lights as the lights used, but just wasn't bright enough. I finally just went and bought two LED magnetic mount lights. I keep them in a plastic tub when off the car. I just mount them on the back and run the double cord down the right side to the front. It takes maybe as much as 5 minutes extra to do this, but-the LED's are bright, and with four lights across the back of the car, people take notice. Then-I can tow any car with this setup. I use two sets since all four lights are running, two are for stop, other two for turn-since this is the way the bus is also wired. Good Luck, TomC

You need one of your buddies that has a wife that is a friend of your wife that loves the idea of having a bus; maybe this will help. It would probably help if she could see someone's 4106 or equivalent in the area that has already done a nice conversion. Besides, this is your mistress, not one at the local bar or work. This one she can keep an eye on. Also, get her involved with how you want to do the interior. Otherwise, get some iron underwear for protection.

oops, didn't look at pics first. Instead, take some short trips soon. Nice looking coach. Also it depends on whether the real issue is the purchase without discussion, or even thinking of having one in the first place. You could consider attending a couple FMCA local rallies in your neck of the woods. Visitors are welcomed and encouraged. You can find info on their web site.

Tom -

To also add to what Chessie mentioned, let your wife pick the name for the coach - especially if you have any plans of painting it on the back or putting it in the destination sign. It may seem like a small thing to some, but I'm sure it will make her happy and feel as if she has a part in it as well if she gets to name it. Maybe she will have a change of heart!! LOL

My other half picked the name for ours, and she even likes her so much now that she wants to learn how to drive her!

Good Luck!

I think that CHESSIE Ought to ride up there and show her what it might look like when you get thru with some of the interior. Then take you all on a little road trip around the state so you can have the misses enjoy YOU driving LOL.
Chessie; How about the proposal?? huh?? GO CHESSIE

We tidied up the shrubbery and front porch while we were waiting. I could of sworn that someone was peeking out between the curtains.BTW, I helped build that when I was a kid. All of that gingerbread was a pita to install. Fell off the top roof when we were shingling it. Landed on my head, but sustained no injuries.
