Had a strange thing happen on the way out yesterday. I had the bus idling in the driveway, and as I walked past the headlights they seemed really dim. Run inside looked at the voltmeter on the dash, which read 21 VDC. I shutdown the lights, heater and defroster. No change on the meter, so I ran the throttle up to 1200 nothing. At that point, I moved her back to her parking spot before shuting down, cause I figured she wasn't going to restart. The long and the short, I tested both starting batteries (21 months Old) one was 10.5 the other 12.2VDC. Took them to NAPA which they replace under warranty (pro-rated) Installed two new ones today. Once installed tested bank (engine Off) 25.2... (engine on)24.6 and holding. Ran idle up and down with no change of voltage. My guess is bad alternator or regulator. My engine is a 6v92TA. The alternator is dual belt drive mounted on the top of the block in the back. My question is, how do I get it out and is the regulator mounted on it? Any information is as always appreciated. Tom |

This is just general info for anyone reading this post. My alternator is located on the back right of the block looking rearward. Removing it was fairly simple since the alternator looks just like an oversized car alternator. It has two wires going to it held on by 1/2 nuts. It has two 3/4 in. bolts that hold it to the frame which is the lower pivot point for adjusting it. On top is a stationary bracket held in place by a 3/4 in bolt into the block. This bracket is approximately 10 in.long with 50% threaded. Two 3/4 in. nuts and tee provide the adjustment to the top of the alternator. After removing the alternator, it went to a local shop and tested bad. The total was $109 out the door for a rebuild. Tom |

I sell 50dn's, stator's and repair kits for them and the generator weighs about 250# and over $1000.00 my cost, you got off sooo cheap! congrats. |
