I just installed a new Trace SW2512MC in my RTS and notice that it has an internal buzz when it is inverting or charging the battery bank. At small loads it is just a hum, when it has a big load on it sounds like it is rattling. Is this normal for SW units? --Geoff '82 RTS CA |

The cover on them sometimes vibrates. I put some foam between the cover and the chassis and this eliminated the rattling. You will still hear the audible hum when it is either charging or producing power. I have a 3624 and it does the same thing. |

Hi Geoff, I had a DR3624 and currently have an SW4024. These both have a hum to them when they are converting or charging. It seems the more juice used, the more hum. I haven't heard a rattling sound, maybe someting is loose or out of place. Craig S |

equipment using AC often have a hum. this is caused by the laminations in the transformer core being charged one polarity and then the other rapidly. the laminations first attract each other then repulse each other, at least thats what the Air Force taught me 'mumble' years ago. FWIW Dale MC8 |

I was using the inverter today and it was quieter than the first time I hooked it up and loaded it down. I love the digital readouts, the SW is a nice unit-- and thanks for the help! --Geoff '82 RTS CA |

I believe that I know the noise you are refering to. Our hair dryer, when set on low or medium causes the invertor to buzz extra loud. When the dryer is switched to high the sound disappears. This only happens when the SW 4024 is inverting, and is not evident with the genset or shorepower, both of which run through the invertor. |
