OK, I was helping at a festival site, building a small stage and cover. All went well but our power was tenuous, being a temp installation of Romex off a 240v installation; the 240 was split at the site into two 120 legs. The electrical guy kept complaining about "I got a potential at a number of places and I can't find a way to ground everything in a way that ties it together". (This guy has a degree in electrical engineering.) So, I asked myself "What Would Sean Do" and told him "Check the code revision - I'll bet it tells you to bond the neutrals, grounds will never be more than a local thing once you have a distributed component setup". Turns out that the version of the code called up by the local regs is the 91 or 92 version and what does it say? Right, among other things - "bond the neutrals in the various items". Once he set it up to code, no more potentials (aside from the actual conductors and their connectors, of course) and we had no problems with the electrical setup for the entire two weeks. Sometimes, life can be easy. |
