I had requested some info before about re-engining an eagle 01 from an 8V71 (very tired) to an 8V92T until I found out the price and other problems involved. The question now is,I have a 6V92T it will fit better and will be using the 4sp trans. will this combination work with 24.5 " rims? and how much power does this engine have? I will be towing a race car trailer (4000 lbs or so)or just a driver about the same weight.
thanks

Hello JMJ

8V71 and 6V92T were the two engine choices most coach companies considered for their coaches in the 80's, so it is a good choice for an economical swap. Lots of MC9 and 102A with both motors still out there commercially.

The 6V92T has a wide range of power settings, depending on how it is equipped. There are mechanical motors, and electronic motors(DDEC). You need the DDEC computer for the electronic motors. Variables are injector sizes, turbo sizes, intercooled or not.

There were some bus 6V92 that were a little poor on power out of the factory, as the initial focus for them was fuel economy, and everyone got fooled thinking the turbo and higher torque would save the day.

The poor ones I was involved with were automatics, rated at ~260HP and were mechanical motors. And we were comparing them to the rest of the fleet with autos and ~285 HP 8V71's.
They were a little poor on take-off, with the signature cloud of black smoke, and seemed to slow a little earlier on the hills. I didn't have the chance to take any of those to the mountains, where theoretically, the 6V92 should have begun to win against the 8V71.

47 people in the seats weighs more than 4000lbs, so the power will be sufficient

Find out exactly what bits you have in that motor, lift the block serial number too, and post them here. Others here have the info on the particular set-ups. With some luck, you may not have to spend any more money on that part!

As you already alluded to, the cooling system should not require modifications, if it is up to snuff, saving some more ca$h!

happy coaching!

Have been overseas and read the reply. Will get the history on the motor along with the numbers on the block and post them.
