Thanks Luvrbus for the info. I knew I could depend on this board. The roof was raised 8" now there is a 8" high opening where the destination sign use to be. I am thinking that a front cap from R&M would be the solution. Are these front caps all standard meaning one size fits all? |

One thing about installing caps I have learned is that not all bus frames are the same. You will have to trim and modify to make them fit correctly and look good. I'm just saying, be prepared. Once on they look great! Richard makes a pretty good unit, he leaves a lot of material around the edges so the new owner has the choice of cut and fit. |

Remember to tell R&M that it's a model 20 NJT they are different from others. |

The 20 is a sweet bus. I had a 5 and there is no comparison, the 05 is crap compared to a 20. I have seen the 20 with the bumpers changed, but those bumpers will save you a bundle of money if there is an accident. They will also save your life... I have no plan to ever change mine and I don't have a problem with the way they look either. If you prefer the 10 front cap it should fit nicely with the 8 inch raise and look like a tall model 10, the tall glass looks much more modern than the dated shorty windshields. The 20 rear cap is better looking than the old slope back look on the dated buses, the last one Integrity updated used the newer 20 rear cap and looked great. I am with Cliff on all the white wiring, but I have had my 20 on the road since 2001 and never had a problem relating to wire color, a harness is a harness to me and they are really bullet proof in the way they are designed and the connectors they use. All the Eagles prior to the Model 20 are rust buckets, they were built out of mild steel tubing. The 20 is built out of Core 10 bridge steel and mine looks like new from front to rear to this day. NJT changed the hour meters when they rebuilt the engines. Ask how many hours showing on the hour meter in the engine bay. The standard 290HP is lacking. It was less than $200 for an upgrade to 350HP at DD. That made it a whole different bus to drive. There is also a 450 HP upgrade for the same price and next time the bus goes by DD it will be 450 HP. The HTB750R Allison is bullet proof as well, just don't spill any water or pop on the selector. Upgrading from the 05 Eagle to the 20 was a no brainer for me, no comparison, the 20 is the top of the Eagle line if you are happy with a 96 wide coach. I was more than impressed with the vehicle condition. NJT really goes the extra mile maintaining their equipment. You are definately not purchasing an old Greyhound/Trailways junker or something like that that has no life left and is a money pit. The 20 also has all the same size side windows. Getting rid if the sloped front side window really helped the looks of the bus. Going down the road in a 5 or 10 with the little windshields is OK if you are the driver. Having the tall windshields like the Model 20 really makes the bus a lot nicer for any passengers to ride in because they can see out the front of the bus. The last 10 I rode in I had to sit on the floor to see out the front of the bus. My 20 just passed 400,000 miles. NJT did not run this fleet very hard. 400,000 miles is almost like having a new bus. My ride height was very good and the T bars have a mile of adjustment left. The 20's all came with power steering, Allisons and 6V92 engines. I'd have a Cummins or Cat in mine right now, but the floor is pretty over built and it would take some serious hours to change it. I decided to just keep a spare 6V92 in the shop and live with an engine I really think of as a boat anchor... I love the stainless sides, mine are not polished, but they really are more likable to me than the aluminum was. Aluminum and steel always causes the aluminum to corrode, so the stainless is a huge upgrade for Silver Eagle in terms of upkeep and longivity. There are not to many 20's out there,(they all went to NJT) if you have a chance to get one and it's in good condition, I just don't see how you could be dissapointed, from everything I have seen they are in a class all by themselves as far as engineering and running gear for Silver Eagle. |

Only difference in model 20 windshields from a 05 or 10 they are a model 15 windshield 7 inches taller and the model 20 NJT was not the only Eagle built with Cor/Ten. The model 20 is a 96 inch model 15 I like the model 20 NJT swing out radiator but not crazy about the hyd fan drive they have their share of problems I have converted a few over to belt driven fans |
