It's almost time to buy tires for my '04. I have been using bias ply tires, but would like to buy radials this time. My tire store recommends Dunlap at $280 a tire. What other brands are busnuts using and can you recommend a place to buy them. I will be travelling this spring, so it doesn't really matter where I might need to go. What I am not clear on is what size to buy and do I need to put drive tires in the rear and steer tires in the front? (there is a difference in price) I was told I can use the same wheels on the front, but will have to replace the old split rims on the rear.

Yea, some older split rims do not mix at all with tubeless radial tires as tubes would have to be used which screws up the radials.

Believe your 4104 had 10X20 tube type bias ply tires to begin with. The nearest size to that with tubeless radials would...

...be around 11 or 12 X by 22.5 as far as revs per mile or diameter goes.

11 X 22.5 tires in the proper load rating would be fine for your '04. This is also a common truck size...

...and they would be less expensive. Yes, you would have to get one piece Bud type steel wheels for....

....the back of your coach. Many different manufactures make the size you would need. Best to shop around and find the best deal....

....with a good service and warranty program. You can use the same tire on all six positions--special rear and front tires are not necessary. Good luck. Henry of CJ.

Most RV's do not travel enough miles per year to wear out the tire. Tires do age due to exposure to sun and climate and start to crack along the sidewall long before you wear them out.

Why not check a few tire dealers, or truck sales dealers, for "take-off" tires, they often sell a truck that the buyer wants a brand other then whats on. Also, check a truck salvage yard or two for good tire from wrecks, that way you can get them rims and all and save more bucks. If you see rim damage don't buy the tire.

My 4104 has 22.5 rims. If you still have the 6-71 I would suggest you stay with 22.5 instead of 24.5 for hill climbing power.

Your '04 had 11 X 20 original equipment. Same size in a tubeless is 12 X 22.5. "Take off" wheels are usually about $65. Get an "all position" tire for steer. drive or tag positions. They are marked on the side wall. "Good used" will be fine if they are fresh casings. Get your tire dealer to show you the date system on the sidewall. You can get about 5 yrs dependable service from well cared for tires 19.5 and smaller, about 7.5 years for 20" and larger, due to the larger rubber mass slowing the vulcanizing process. Most any good brand name will work on a bus if they got the hole in the muddle!!

Check with a local bus or charter business. They will tell you what they use. Mine let me buy through them. Saved several bucks. HTH

Used 22.5 steel rims are easy to pickup, I got 2 for $50 a few months back at a tire shop (takeoffs when Alcoas were purchased)
There are lots of bus nuts that have used tires that would serve you well, I have 4 12R-22.5 tires
Where are you at?
Peter
