I am a New guy. I am looking at a Neoplan bus that has been converted. Has a 6v92 3sp auto was a 1985 Dallas transit bus 40'x102". Good things Bad things things to lookout for. It runs and drives ok. Has an oil leak from the front or rear seal and needs to be cleaned up. Before I go look at it any thoughts good or bad. thanks Joe |

We need the model number, and the VIN would be even better, to better advise you. In 1985, Neoplan USA was still importing some models from Germany. If you end up with one of those, parts availability and expense will be an issue. In any case, the fact that Neoplan USA is out of business will be a concern. I happen to have a 1985 Dallas transit! what's your buses number? Mines a Neoplan USA model so parts are easy as pie ! I hope yours still isn't yellow! Fan Drive Gasket was bad...LOTS AND LOTS of air leaks....although you'll make back 1/2 your investment in change if it still has it's seats! A few electrical Hillbilly rigs that needed to be changed. OK, you have a US model built in Lamar: 1N9: Manufacturer Code: Neoplan USA TA11A: equipment codes (I don't have the complete list of these) 0: Check digit F: model year: 1985 L: Plant of manufacture: Lamar, Colorado 013307: Serial number of your unit So you should have no trouble finding most of the running gear, which were standard US-spec parts. SEAN; I just wanted to tell you that I appreciate you for all your knowledge of not only common things but your technical advice on the hard to figure out things. I am not excluding all the others that contribute to this board in no way shape or form. I just thought that you need a boost on your turbo!! I have sometimes just been reading post and all of a sudden, Gee now I know what is being said in regards to the subject at hand and I admit I have learned so much just by reading my brain has expanded greatly and also Thanks TO IAN for putting up with us LOL. Are their any problems with this bus. It has been converted has a grinder toilet? with holding tank does have some sheet metal damage on the drivers side but it still runs and drives fine. The owner said he got 4 mpg I think he was running 65 or more. What type of transmission it is a 3sp auto and could that be upgraded to a 4sp? The reason I am asking all these questions is that I got screwed on an old Eagle bus which I still have and "once is shame on you twice is shame on me" |

Joe, Hard to give you advice without being able to look at the bus and the conversion. You might have a bus mechanic look over the power train for you. Might spend the bucks to check the compression and/or pull the pan and have a look st the bearings. Also, you could take oil samples from the engine, tranny, and pumpkin. Frankly, I would be more worried about the conversion, though. It's almost certainly a DIY project, and you'll be getting pot luck on electrical, plumbing, tanks, heating, etc. etc. etc. If there is any way you can get photos of everything and post them, we can take a look.
