Identical 671 engines both in 4104,s. When starting both engines and running them, one compressor is quite noisey when the govener is calling for air.The other compressor makes no sound. Is there anything to be concerned about with the loud compressor? It is only noisey when its pumping air. Your input and experience would be appreciated. John |

Does the noisy compressor have an air dryer? The check valve in the dryer can cause a noise while compressor is pumping. HTH Jim Stacy |

Process of elimination. If it makes air in a timely fashon- pistons are OK. If its not passing quarts of oil to the wet tank- the rings are OK And if it is quiet with the unloader pressurerized and clatering when the gov. is not pressurized (air call). Its rare but sounds like the unloader. smoke,rattle&,stink.....docdezl |

Mike It only makes a noise when its pumping /the air it pumps is quite clean/except for a watery gray solution that I can drain out of the rear air tank behind the rear driver tyre.It pumps up ok althought not as fast as the quite one. How do you stop the oil leak from the bottom air compressor cover? Thanks John |

The white/gray is oil. Granted it will keep the wet tank from rusting. But it wont get better. The oil helps to carry more moisture thru the system. The acids in the oil/water eats pot metal(valves). They are not hard to rebuild. The core is still good/reman could work too. If you pull it before it goes "bang". smoke,rattle&,stink....docdezl |

Hi John < I would like to say they make 2 types of gears that run the comp 1 is metal & 1 is fiber my fiber gear went out while I was on a trip in south Fl.lucky for me I had 110 air comp with me I hooked it in to air system ran my generator got to my camp site then pulled air comp apart the fiber gear that runs the comp was striped. the only gear I could locate was a metal gear. after installing it it was a lot louder then the fiber 1 but do think it will last a lot longer.
