Hi All, I'd like either a link to a site that has
directions and supplies or someone's tips posted regarding polishing Alcoa wheels. Thanks.

Any large full service truck stop should have polish made for aluminum wheels and tanks, that plus a lot of elbow grease should have them looking like new again. Several truckers pay to have them buffed out, listen for a truck polisher around big city truck stops on the CB radio, r just get on ch. 19 and ask for one.

Hint, I used diesel fuel on a rag to clean them, then a dry cloth to polish them off. If done regularly it don't take long to do. A light coat of clear coat spray will keep them looking great with little work.

Busch Enterprises in Statesville, NC sells kits of buffing wheels and polishes for $45 at RV shows. Phone them at (704) 878-2067 for further info. Correct buffs and shafts. Tried them and they work. Still takes time, though.

couple of methods
i used the bussh aluminum wash then polished with mothers.if you use the wash make sure your wheels are not finished with clearcoat. the wash will strip it off.

i was talking with a musicband driver and he uses a green block ground up with mineral spirits. have not tried this one

One of our local distributors carries bars of polishing compounds and buffing wheels that mount onto an angle grinder or rotary buffer for polishing cars. This method using rouge and a buffing wheel will make them look new again. Be sure to wear a mask as it is messy.

The product we used is found here:
www.greggdistributors.ca
click on catalouge, search for aluminum polish, then choose the jeweler's rouge, (it is on page L49)

Hot Stuff car and truck care products has a couple of different items. the first is a green goo that you rub on the wheels. for the high luster they have a pink liquid that works real well.
If your wheels are severly oxidized they told me to use a mild aluminum acid cleaner first (Duponts alumiprep) to quicken up the process.
I saw this stuff work and was really impressed.

from the make it myself dept.....

Mothers mag polish does wonders on aluminum and Stainless.

test any material by hand in a small area...

if ok,

find one fuzzy tennis ball, insert 1/4" bolt all the way though the ball, and chuck up in varible speed drill....

apply small dab of polish and buff with tennis ball/drill assembly at LOW SPEED.

Caution! High speed will throw polish everywhere, and dry it out quickly before it removes oxidation.

same process can be used with std. buffing compounds working from course emery type down to rouge.

tennis balls are cheap, have a felt type surface, and work great inside the curved areas of wheels.
When done- depending on your perfection tendecies- go over the area by hand to remove any slight swirl marks.
This can be used with any compound or polish- experiment!
and best part- no more cramped fingers!
