Having removed my fuel tank (Aluminum) to repair a seam leak, I'd like to thoroughly clean and flush it on the inside. Could someone reccomend a proceedure?

The tank has a vertical crack about 6" high on the
left front corner seam weld. It had been repaired with a product similar to fiberglass cloth and resin. The person had done a thorough cleaning job, but did'nt remove the tank. I just peeled off the repair with my hand, and plan to have the split re-welded after cleaning the tank. I don't know what the product that was used is called, but the tank still leaked after being repaired with it.

For repairs I usually send large fuel tanks to a radiator shop that has a large hot tank and have them boiled out, flushed, and the inside coated with teflon. Otherwise I just use a hot water pressure washer.

Eastwood may have what you're looking for. Order the catalog while your there, it's got a lot of useful tools and materials.

I had to have my tank cleaned once. Did just as Geoff describes. My DD dealer removed the tank and sent it to a truck radiator shop where it was hot tanked, pressure checked, and repainted. Looks and works like new again.
