I have an 84 Eagle 10. Was replacing the dash. Now no voltage on the voltage gauge, And horn blows when brake pedal is depressed. I have looked at all the wiring schematics and be damned if I can figure it out. She's parked till I get it fixed. |

I'm sorry......it just hit me wrong! I had a sharp pain in my side followed by tears. Not sure of the cause! If the brake lights come on when you hit the horn..swap the wires with the brake pedal switch. tony |

Look in the yellow pages under Auto Electric. Those are the wiring pros. Expect it to get expensive. $65 and hour and who knows how many hours to sort it all out. |

Mike you need to treat these as two seperate problems first I would see why the volt meter is not working either no power or no ground as for the horn sounding when brakes are applyed this could be a poor ground and the horn relay is the completing the ground for the brake light circuit these are most likly simple problems that can be solved with a DVOM and a wiring diagram Smoky |

Mike where are you located at? I have a wiring specialist here in Florida that works on Eagles among other busses but he does specialize in wiring. Maybe you could even give him a call if your not close and he can give you some clues as to what to look for and repair! Ace |

If you want to do it yourself, and it's surely the best way to learn, just get a basic understanding of Ohm's law, A DVOM (digital volt-ohm meter), or even a cheap analog unit for $5, and go to town. Just be careful not to fry the meter by checking current with the leads plugged in the wrong jacks. Pick up a general automotive Haynes or Chilton manual. |

Ok guys the voltage gauge is working. Think it was a loose connection. Now I need to figure out why the horn blows when the brake pedal is depressed. |

You might check to see if the horn lead has been chafed by something that moves when you step on the brake. If the insulation has been worn away, it may ground the horn and cause it to blow. Sort of a long shot, but it made my turn signals quit. |

I'm with the majority--the horn/brake thing sounds like either a bad ground (current "detouring" through the horn), or swapped wires (ie, see if the brake lights go on when you push the horn button, as tfones said). Electrical problems can be a PAIN IN THE REAR. |
