Several months ago I asked about the 8V71 to 6V92T swap and wanted more info about the engine. Recieved a reply to put the sn of the engine for more info so... 6VF134733 is the number. Will be using the engine with the original Spicer 4sp trans. Also understand that with the right injectors the engine puts out about 360 HP. Would this combo work with 24.5 rims?

Rim size does not indicate the tire diameter. Road speed is a combination of engine rpm, differential gearing and tire size. Larger rims allow for better air circulation around the brake drums.

GO to Darises fine site ,

http://home1.gte.net/res07rfl/

and use his road speed computer.
Do EVERY gear , not just 4th , very informative.

Use the tire Mfg rolling diameter as input.

Yes, your hot rod should easily pull the 24.5 with high tires of great diameter.

Thanks for the info about the tire sizes. Does anyone know any info on the engine. In one of the articles in the arcives the numbers 90,95 and 100 injectors were discussed, seeing as the engine will be rebuilt anyway which would be the best way to go for performance and economy. I'm not going to be running the bus flat out all the time just would like to have more power than what I need, better to have more than not enough. So if I keep my foot out of it mileage should be in the 6 to 8 mpg range.
once again thanks for the help

If you are going to be running a 2-cycle DD, the best way to run them is to run them flat out all the time. They do not take well at all to lugging.

In other words, running a high HP engine at low output is going to be harder on it than a lower HP engine running flat out.

If you want a real upgrade with fewer hassles in swapping, go to an 8V-71 with a turbo. Not only will you have a lot more HP but a very large increase in torque over the 6V-92T.

About the only time you will find much difference between the 6V-92T and the 8V-71 is on the higher elevations and grades where the turbo makes the difference. On the flat, the higher torque of the 8V-71 will out perform the higher HP 6V-92T.

I have run my MCI with an 8V-71 alongside of an Eagle with a 6V-92T and a Setra with an 8V-92TA (all three have Allisons). Due in large part to the fact my MCI has a little faster gearing, neither the Eagle nor the Setra can keep up on the flat. But once we get into the hills, I am usually at least one gear lower than the others. I am thinking that with similar gears the differences would not be nearly as noticeable once we got into the hills. If I had a turbo on the MCI, I would leave the Eagle and Setra a long way behind.

I guess what I am saying is it isn't just HP you need to consider. The torque ratings are actually more important. It is the torque that gets you going and the HP that keeps you going. Without the torque, you won't be able to utilize your HP.

Regardless of what the numbers on paper might say, eight holes pumping will ususally out pump six holes pumping.

With advanced timing and N65 injectors (304 HP) an 8V-71 only has 800 ft lbs of torque compared to a 6V92TA with 1025 ft lbs of torque running 9G90 injectors @ 350 HP.
