greetings :-)

so while i'm putting together all the parts for my series 60 / 10 speed autoshift conversion, i happened to fall into an 8v-71 that runs like a top.

so i'm thinking about putting it in my bus so i can drive her while i parts chase.

but that won't solve the "pops out of every gear" thing.

it looks like about 10,000 miles ago someone did a transmission oil swap and used synthetic in it.

not sure if this is the cause, or if it's linkage, or the transmission itself.

i had someone just point out to me that we may not be able to rebuild the one in there due to lack of parts availability...

can anyone shed any light on this?
suggestions on who, in the seattle area, can handle rebuilding this transmission?

thank you,
-stone

not sure if this is the cause, or if it's linkage, or the transmission itself.

DA BOOK has the complete info on setting the shift rods and clutch linkage.

At least on our 06 ,should be info on how to set up the senicruser, if it has a book.

Your 10 speed have OD?

The 8v71 will usually be at 1900rpm or so at cruise the series 60 will be about 1300 rpm .

On the 10 spd autoshift, depending on the model, the overdrive could be .73-.75. That translates with a direct drive cruise at 1900rpm, dropping to 1387rpm to 1425rpm which is perfect for the Series 60. Good Luck, TomC

jumping out of gear could be mis adjustment, worn shift forks or too much gear end play. I'd at least pull top off of trans and inspect shift forks for excessive wear and check for too much end play in gear/shaft assemblies. Those clearances should be pretty much the same as any other GM trans. If forks are worn excessively and new are unobtainable, proper welding and grinding could repair those surfaces.

Why do you want a 10 speed autoshift? Don't they make 5 or 7's yet?I currently drive a #$*^box Freightliner with one of those assinine 10 speeds.Every time you stop at a light it will go through all ten gears again and again. Absolutely maddening.I have a sraight 5 speed in my Crown and have plenty of gears.

Bassically a standard spicer 4 speed. The main difference is the shifter.

Make sure the shifter plate is securely bolted to the transmission - if loose, it can cause your problems.
Check for propper shifter adjustment & that it is fully engaging the gear, not just half way.

Ask around, you may be surprised by how many good used scenicruiser transmissions are sitting on the floor waiting on a good home ;-) I know of more than one here on the East coast . . . . .
