I was reading in a trade publication that reports a lot on the gen set business that Xantrex has a prototype unit on a Freightliner. It uses a Ballard fuel cell to generate up to 5kw of 120v a.c. power and is fueled by a mixture of methanol and water. The company predicted that that further development will use low sulfur diesel.
It looks like a quiet powerplant is in the works.
