Just bought a new 4106 and the Bible and am begginning the process. Factory AC is still in the Bus empty of freon. I don't see why an entire compartment on the left side needs all that useless junk in it. My question is, how much of the AC should I take out? Should I cap the lines and leave the drive connected to the engine or should I take the entire pump out, removing it from the accessory drive and call it clean? What about the air and electrical. I have the schematics but what effect will there be on the engine with the drive for the pump free hanging (does the clutch keep it from spinning externally)?

Sorry I am not using the proper words for parts but my notes and books are not with me. The one time I leave them in the bus and....

I thank anyone for the help. I have a dozen more but will space them out.

Remove it all. Tape off the ends of electrical connections. The compressor shaft can be an extra accessory drive to install a 125amp automotive alternator on when your huge 230+ amp stock one goes south. (With the AC gone you don't need 230 amps capacity) Flush the residual oil out of the long runs of copper tubing, but leave them intact as spares when a water or air line goes bad. The condenser (and it's fan) the heater coil, and the evaporator fans and coil can all become boat anchors. Probably some cash (as scrap) value, but very little. Save the relays from the fans for use elsewhere. Good Luck and Cheers...JJ

IF its not in use the AirC should have been disconected from the drive long ago.

Its very dangerous not to do this ,
DA Book Sez to do it every fall when the ACond will not be in use.

IF the air cylinder should release and the clutch engage at road speed it rips lots of coach apart.

We used the space to hold the power cord sets AC inlet and AC master breaker with a simple ply floor and rear wall.

Great to get to the campsite with soft warm flexable heavy cables.

There was enough room to remove the rest of the stuff there , so we installed a floor 7/11 style safe.Access is from the rear stateroom floor.

Its quite simple to run some #6 wireing thru the old ducting to locate the AC dist box or panel where you wish.

Works for me,

Welcome to a great hobby!

I got $58 for my old condenser at the scrapper.
I plan to make use of the pump for something...
