So I am sittin at home laid up for a couple days and my imagination is going. I want to be able to haul my golf cart and toad so I was thinking of buying a used lift from a commercial box truck and modifying it to fit the rear of the bus to lift golf cart then extension on my receiver to tow toad. Any thoughts or suggestions would be helpful?? Will it be too much weight for the tear cradle to handle? |

I have been kicking around the same dilema and have come the conclusion that a tandem axle trailer with brakes that is big enough for our Focus toad and the golf cart sideways will be the safest and best bet. A lot would depend on how heavy the cart is too. Our electric one we had weighed about twice what the new gasoline model we have now does. The trailer also gives you the option of backing up which you don't have with a toad. Unless I hear something better, I am going to work towards that goal. John |

I've seen quite a few toad pickups lately with the golf cart in the back of the pickup. Wouldn't that be a lot of load on the towbar, though? |

If you are talking about the electric tailgates that swing up out of the way, they have some heft to them. I'd guess maybe 300 to 350 pounds. We have one on a former safety clean truck that works great and could be available if you are interested. The vertical lifting channels bolt to the rear corners of the box body. The one we have could probably lift two golf carts. |

I have a friend that made a lift for his Hog soft tail ( big bike) and used the receiver and ran it through to use for the toad also. I think he built it out of the rams from a wheelchair lift. Also have seen 2 story Trailers double axle with car on bottom and golf cart on top, fold down ramp with winch and another with a lift that folded up after loading. Dave |

John - If you go with the trailer idea, in order to keep your tongue weight to a minimum on the coach, consider adding a Tuff-Tow unit to the trailer: http://www.shogunindustries.com/cgi-bin/ws400CS.cgi Click on the "Visit Tuff-Tow" button in the lower right, above the VISA logo. Matthew - You should be able to fit your golf cart into the baggage bin on your particular coach. Just get a little creative and come up with a quick-release mechanism to pop the top off and fold down the windshield. You might have to modify the steering column a little, but maybe not if you can back it up a ramp into the bay. If you can do that, problem solved! If not, the idea of a pick-up toad w/ the golf cart in the bed's a good one. Especially with a double-cab long bed model! The additional weight on the towbar would be inconsequential compared to the additional weight of the cart hanging off the cradle. FWIW & HTH. . . (Message edited by rjlong on October 08, 2010) |

Remember--- those trailers that attached to two brackets(hinged) on the bumper and had a dolly wheel, some had two wheels. Single wheel units had the wheel in the center rear and on a spring. |
