Tony Denny I would like to change my steering system to a tilting telescoping wheel possable from Gm cab-over. my bus is a 64 ,4106. could someone advise please. I am posting this for a fellow who will be with us as soon as his registration is final. I told him that this is the place for info on this sort of project. Help him out if you can thanks Les |

Les; I have found that flat nose fire trucks have the best to work with. They are tilt and telescopic. All the wiring is clearly marked so it isn;t hard to wire it up and it bolts flat on the dash which is reinforced on my coach already. You will have to fit the u-joints but it isn't bad at all. I think the going rate is 150.00 for it. Mine just needed polished up since it was sitting out in the open for a while. Gomer |

Gomer,it may not matter, but which coach did you install it on. You have fire truck salvage yards down there? What year fire truck did you get yours? |

Chessie! let me check who the mfg. of the column is and I will let ya know. I know the truck was an E-One from Here in Ocala. I can put it in about any GM coach with little problems. Gomer |

Thanks Gomer, I've thought about installing a tilt and telescopic, but didn't want to have it be a major engineering project. Your's looks like just what I'm looking for. |

BEWARE , your 06 has a gear box in the steering column. This is to reduce the load on the driver in turning the wheel. IF you remove the box installing power steering , great. But if its replaced for something with no box , you may find two problems. As a minimum the bus will be really heavy to steer, and I'm not sure , but the bus may now steer backwards , turn left to go right. This would be a great anti theft device. Caviat Emptor, FF |
