If this is a new installation could be the pump is rotating the wrong direction, i had that happen on my 06 with 8/71 engine. they can be set up either way. should not have to do anything but put the oil in it , thenbleed to get the air out , but it should come right up and work if it is turning and going the right direction Frank Allen 4106 |

Also possible that the pump is not rotating at all because the drive coupling and spring have not been installed. On a new installation of the vickers pump these items will be left out if the pump will not be immediately plumbed up and put to work. If the pump rotates without fluid passing through, it gets no lubrication. Unless you installed it yourself and know better, you might want to remove the pump and check. tg |

Our Victors VT-42 (right hand drive) pump needed replacement (howling and running VERY hot) sosss we got a rebuild. Murphy's law at its best. What happened was that even though the pump tag said right hand drive, the pump had been rebuilt (we think) as a lefty. Would not prime. Drove us crazy. Finally pulled the pump, (5 minutes--Crown Super Coach) fiddled with it and found the problem. Got another. We remounted the remote power steering oil tank as high above the pump as we could and used just plain ATF, type A. Be sure to change out the internal.. ..oil filture element inside the remote tank and install the element gasket and spring correctly also. The oil will foam for awhile until it.. ...purges out all of the trapped air. We did have to purge the hoses at the front axle hydralic cylinder. Then just drove the bus turning a lot of times. We also spent the extra $bucks$ and had both the very long hydralic hoses changed out for new as they both were 28 years old. Good luck. |
