anybody know if the 50 amp outlet in campgrounds are 120 or 240 volts. If they are 12o how do they wire them, with a shunt? Also what voltage reading is a fully charged 8D gel cell supposed to be after you remove the surface charge? Thankyou Tom

The campground 50 amp service SHOULD be 240v. Some are not. Measure for 240v between the two outside center poles. The top hole is ground and the bottom one is neutral. Should show 120 each to neutral. I'll let someone else answer the gel cell question.

The easiest way to understand 50 amp service is to realize that you have two 120 volt legs. A little harder to understand is that they are on different phases so you can run 240 equipment. Besides the two hot 120v legs, you have one neutral and one ground wire making up the 4 wires for the 50 amp service plug.

But remember that the 240 volt may just be the old wiring with a new 50A socket .

IF the old wiring was for 15 or 30 A , thats all you will get , although you will have two legs to pull 15A from.

Campgrounds over 10 years old seldom have anything near 50A avilable , although they will have the 240V socket to list in Woodals.

Why do you ask that question here?

I would suspect it was posted here due to the difficulty of finding how to post new Topics. Although I am a frequent poster and reader, I seldom post new topics. I just spent several minutes trying to find how/where to post a new topic. Probably would help new comers to have a Post New Topic button under Discussions.

Not complaining I@N, I love the board.
Richard

Just did some more exploring, and it is relatively easy to find out how to post new topic.
First click on any one of the Discussion topics,
Then click on the highlighted BOARD heading,
Then read the disclaimer,
Then scroll to the bottom of all the posts, (only a couple of hundred)
and there it is:

Tom, Puzzled and DML,

I have added an instruction to the main bbs page. Additionally, on the topic pages, I have highlighted the "Create New Conversation" in orange.

As well, I have started a new thread for Tom's question.

Let me know if you think this makes navigation easier.

Regards,

Hey Richard,

By the way, and I guess this is a given, that if I knew a way to get the "Create New Conversation" button to the top of each page, I'd'a done that a long, long time ago.

Agreed posting a new topic "was" difficult... but I simply dug around and found it the first time, then bookmarked that page and titled it "post on BNO", and stuck it in next to my regular BNO bookmark. Now it's no biggie... just hit the boolmark and I'm there...

Cheers
Gary

Gary, great idea. Why did I not ever think of that! And I@N, I was certain that there was some good reason why the Create new Conversation button was somewhat difficult to locate. I still have my doubts if the computer is really here to stay!!LOL
