Several folks on the boards have recommened Terry Bennett of Bennett Bus Works to install a Jake brake. We just left McMinnville, Tennesse, where Terry installed a Jake brake on our MCI-8 bus conversion. Boy, do I love it! No more having to work the brake pedal going down steep hills. I just take my foot off the accelerator and let the Jake do all the work. Makes for a totally different driving experience. Can't wait to get back to Arizona and take on some of those 7 and 8 percent grades I've been avoiding. Bennett's gave us a great price and really treated us right. Out west we were quoted anywhere from $2,400 up for the Jake. Bennett's did the Jake, replaced my two old cartridge type fuel filters with new style screw-on canister types, did an oil & filter change, replaced a bad air line, replaced a leaking power steering hose, adjusted the brakes, replaced a broken lifter spring and a few other little chores. The total bill was $1,948!!! I'm impressed, to say the least. |

Well Jamie, I guess you do not relize how much work that really is! Jake brakes are installed on the exhaust valves on a Detroit & require careful installation & adjustment to prevent catastrophic engine damage. Shops get $80 per hour these days. Then there are the parts. If all of that was done & done RIGHT, I think that sounds very fair. Jim-Bob |
