It has been a while since I have posted anything,so I thought today is the day. 7 years ago today I bought my mc-4. She was in pretty sad shape to say the least, but for 1000 dollars it was what I expected. I have had it on the road for 2 years now and me and my wife have enjoyed it a lot. We just got back from our 2nd trip to N.C. In rebuilding it,it now has power steering out of a Mack truck,a 6v92ta and allison ht740 auto trans out of a wrecked fire truck and interior out of a "sticks and glue"Coachman.Holding tanks and roof top a/c units also off the Coachman. I have got around 7000 miles on it now and have no issues with the motor or trans. using the original radiators. It has plenty enough power and is a blast to drive. I still have the interior to finish off,but thats "gravy" work compared to the "meat and potatos" part of it. Maybe my wife will show me how to post some pics? |

CONGRATS---Nathan hope you have many more years and miles of enjoyment. This coach world is a different one. There is nothing better than hitting the back roads with nowhere to go and not much of a time limit. There are so many places to go and so much to see. Happy traveling Larry and Lynne |

Nathan What was the original powertrain? I am assuming a dropbox setup the same as the 5 series for the rear end? Joe. |

Joe,the original power train was a 8v71 and manual 4 spd. It has the dropbox just like the 5. I had to shorten the drive shaft about 1 inch to accomodate the auto trans.I also had to raise the motor and trans 2 inches for the drive shaft to be as close to original as possible. This also kept the belt to the miter box(squirrel cage blowers)in correct alignment.I also had to hang the turbo on the side of the motor in order to raise it. |

Thanks Nathan, that has to be one of the best upgrades for a 4 or a 5. A four stroke a/la Fred might be nice, except for the lack of room to get it all shoehorned in. Joe. |

Me and my wife can not retire for several years. But the way taxes are I have her convinced in being a "modern day gypsy" in a 47 year old bus conversion. Is that possible?Maybe when it is a 57 year old conversion?Keep the words of encouragement coming! |

Sure it is. We have been doing it for 7 years and i can't retire for at least another 5 years. More likely it will be 6-7 years more. Since i work in construction it is seasonal so i am sort of semi-retired anyway! |

This Thread is the cure for the "OH MY GOD MOMENTS" I experience when I visit my bus to work on it and sanity tries to get the better of me. |
