I know they are completely different engines, but are the blowers the same? Thanks |

No, the 6V blower is shorter than the 8V blower. |

Rumor has it that the blower from an 8V92 will bolt up to an 8V71 providing significant performance boost. Have you heard of this Geoff? Jim Stacy |

Jim How are you doing? To answer your question, no. The 92 blowers have different mounting bolt holes, plus I don't think they would add anything to an 8V71 if you could adapt it to fit-- the 8V71 blower already provides more air than the engine can use (except in high altitudes where you need a turbo). |

for the hotrod types, that 6V71 blower will fit a chevy 350. typically underdriven a bit, and it makes for quite impressive power gains.... used to have a hotrod magazine around here from long ago somewhere profiling the technique.... but we aren't interested in that sort of thing on a bus board, are we? happy coaching! buswarrior |

Geoff, A prominent name in the Bus Business told me they adapted the 92 series blower to 71 blocks and this was one of the modifications they made to "pulling" engines. Read "high power, short life". I have not actually tried it. Jim Stacy |

Okay-- you are talking about the super high horsepower engines with the life of a firecracker (tractor pulls!). Modifying anything to get more air into one of those engines is possible-- for a regular engine it is not going to do much. --Geoff (stock engine guy) |

Thanks for your input, Geoff. Makes you wonder what other modifications were done, doesn't it? The DD factory reps talk about modifying 8V71's to 800 HP for LST duty. (Government requirement was 24 hours engine life.) We'd like a little longer life, but for most of us 100K miles would suffice. "Just enough info to be dangerous...." Jim Stacy |
