I have a chance to buy my old high school activity bus 1968 eagle 01. All I have done so far is look at it. Called the sup of the school and asked the price $4000.00. The bus runs and seems to be pretty good shape. What should I look for pos or neg on this bus. I am new to this. I have been a diesel mech foe 4 years. Then went to electronics school, did that for 7 years. I know own and operate a custom Millwork shop ie woodworking. Any advice would be appreciated. Jay white Belle Plaine Ks 316-488-3559 |

Jay, I own an 01.Depending on how much you are going to do depends on how much/ what to look for. I raised my roof, raised the drivers floor even to the rest of the coach and stretched it (to 45').I am now considering a slide out.Rust everywhere is always a problem. If you are going to do little work (maintain the height/ lenght/ drivers area), rust is a major factor. Get a diagram of an 01/ 05/ 10/15/or20.Or look on the internet of other peoples (eagle) bus in progress. They are all about the same construction wise. That will give you some areas to look for....unfortunately, they will probably be covered with interior or exterior skin. If the exposed framing is terrific, you are not neccesarily in the clear, but have a reasonable shot at little (not too much, what ever that means) rust. Eagles are known to rust!If you are planning a total make over of her, the rust is real easy to change and should not be too much of a concern, but look anyway. The only other advise I can offer some one with your back round is to check the torsolastics, all four! They always want to seperate at the seam. Torsolastics for an 01's are getting hard to find and are expensive to rebuild,$10,000.00 plus, plus, plus whatever else they can find at the same time. They say there are air bag conversions available to replace/ enhance the torsolastics but I have no dealings/experiance with them.I just bought some torsolastic "clamps" to enhance/ strenghting my 01. They cost about $175.00 each and you need two per torsolastic for a total of eight. I can send a rough diagram of mine and you can probably make all eight for $150.00. Hope this helps! VERN |

See if you can find someone in your area who has converted their own Eagle to look at it with you. The school should have a mainteneace history this will also help. Prather |
