I know everyone has talked about dinette designs before but I ran across a picture of one that I really like and want to build. It is from a older Pickwick Sleeper coach. The backs of the seats flip and create a upper bunk and then lower seat drops down in the foot well area of the dinette. I am working on a design but wondering is someone else have one. The only think that I am still thinking about is out to hold the upper bunk up and be able to support a US adult. I am think about swing up angle braces that also acts a small ladders to the upper bunk. This would close down the lower bunk some but I don't think that much. I may also make an are under the upper bunk to slide the table top into for additional support to bridge the gap between the two seat backs. What to people think about this design? |

Hey, I says go for it. The neat thing about doing your own conversion is that you can do it YOUR way. It would probably make a difference if the conversion would be used as sleeping berths with the coach rolling down the road, vs sitting still. More bumps and lumps rolling would probably require heavier construction. Also, if only kids were to use the dinette for sleeping, then obstructing the lower ... ...bunk somewhat with reinforced braces/ladders would not matter that much. Kids can squeeze in ANYWHERE... and love it. Plus your great idea would also let the coach sleep, in a pinch or even full time, two more persons, thus making a fun bus a more fun bus. Finally, perhaps by using stronger materials (aluminuminumum?) one could construct something that would be smaller, plus would also look good. Good luck. |

I would also be interested in any designs you find. I was watching a some kind of train show on public TV, and saw a sofa thing that pivoted down to make a bed. They are probably not used in RV's because they would be durable, high quality units that would outlast the RV by ten times. Please let me know if you find anything, and I will post anything I find. |

It seems to me that you are posting some type of photo or drawing of the dinette you speak of. I would like to see it but I am realatively new to this board and do not find a way to get into the photos mentioned. Can someone tell me how to bring them up on the screen? |

Clifford, I don't think he posted a picture of the bunk. But it would be helpful to see a pic to help visualize the design. Ron, if you have a digital pic and would like Web space to post the pic, let me know and I can host it for you. Scott |

Have any of you come across any pictures yet? It seems that there is quite a bit of interrest in a dinette design like was described... would love to see some ideas myself! Mark gillig 636D |
