I live in California. Want to register in California. I read the DMV.CA.GOV website and it seems that I can't register any vehicle which wasn't built to California Air Quality specs unless I owned it when I moved to CA (5 years ago).
Does this rule apply to buses? and if it does, does that mean I can only buy a California registered vehicle?

two years ago I registered a 1973 GM 4905 from Washington in California... no questions, no problems... it was registered as a housecar in Washington
I think that regulation must be for either comercial or "new" stuff |

In the past 2 years I have bought 3 vehicles from Texas. A 1968 MC-5a, a 1970 Mini Cooper S and a 91 Holiday Rambler Limited Diesel Pusher Motorhome. All of which are now in California.
Another hint is that if you keep it out of state for 90 days after you purchase it you are not going to be charged california sales tax upon registration.
Get work done on it or park it at a friends lot just keep it out of state. This is not third party information. I have not been charged california sales tax on any of the vehicles I purchased out of state.

This might help...I lived in Calif. for 3 years...had a mercedes car (diesel) & it wasn't required to pass any of the Calif. smog inspections |

Neither my MC-5a, nor my Holiday Rambler were required to pass any smog inspections. Non-commercial Diesel vehicles are still exempt. |
