Oh Boy!! Another New Board! Many thanks 2 all. I have just received new hinge material for my MCI5 I will be installing in spring - not now as was -44 Saturday nite!! I do not want to use any petroleum-based lubricant to install, as I am afraid of rubber being harmed by it. what have other bus-nuts found to be the best way and/or lube to install these. Thanks in advance. Dale

A little bit of talc (aka: baby powder) goes a long way for helping rubber to slip into place without being harmed.

Good luck & Happy Holiday's

I find that wire lube works well and easily washed off when done. Wire lube is what electricans use to pull wire through conduit. also its harmless to rubber.

Good old K Y jelly It is water based and washes off easy. Forgive the pun it won't hurt the rubber.

Its real easy and simple...Get you a spray bottle and put some dishwashing detergent in it and add some water and spray it on the rubber and in the track..I used it and it worked real good.

another hint, on my 4106 the track needed cleaning out. tried all sorts of stuff. used the brass (or copper) wire brush I got at the gun show to scrub mygun bore. Has about 8 or 10 inch twisted wire shank with a loop on the end. cut off the loop with your dykes then use your drill to run it through the track. 45 cal. is the size of my 4106

Do not use talcs. They all have a perfume which is bad for the rubber. Corn startch will do the same thing without harm. Very old wetsuit trick in days of SCUBA way back when.
