On my 6v-71 MCI 5Cs automatic, I have to replace the 2 short coolant hoses hooked to the bottom of the water pump. 1 Has a bubble in the outer layer of hose that swells just a little when I run the motor. I can feel a hard small piece of something like rust under the layer in the bubble. When the motor is off and the bubble goes down the piece is still there. 1) where is the correct drain for this area to drain the coolant down far enough to replace these 2 hoses. Want to re-use coolant also. 2) Do I have to drain all 26 gallons (Saudi Bus Bigger upper radiators) or is it less being it is only halfway down and I don't want to drain the heater lines. 3) Can I get these 2 hose off and new silicon or green strip gates ones back on without draining the oil also and having to actually take off the water pump? Trying to figure out what size containers I will need to drain. Thanks Dave (Message edited by chrome_dome on January 04, 2011) |

I had to drain about 15-18 gallons from our 4107. If the configuration is like mine, you may find it easier to remove the t-stat housing. |

Easiest to remove the connection at the oil cooler to replace the hoses and you will drain the entire system there is no oil to worry with or finding the o-ring behind the water pump btw it has a drain cock on the bottom of the cooler but takes for ever to drain good luck |

Dave; Make sure you close the valves going to the front of the coach if you still have the original heat or defroster in use. That will save a bunch of possible air pockets when you refill the unit. Gomer |

Dave, On my 5a I have a water filter on the pass. side with cut-offs on both hoses ,I shut them off, remove one hose and add a 5/8 hose to a 5gal. bucket turn on one hose and fill bucket. And like Gomer said close heater valves above transmission. HTH Glen |

Thank You Guys for the great info; Da-Book as Gomer and others call it sometimes is lacking in info as to how much and where etc. So this really helps. Dave Jim; don't know but will check at the T-Stat as you described also. Luvrbus; I will disconnect at oil cooler and expect 20 gallons to drain and if less that will be a good thing. Gomer; Yes Thanks I will definitely shut off heater lines to save what maybe another 8 gallons keeping fingers crossed, LOL Glen; can't find any water filter or upper shut off. God knows I have looked, figuring if I could shut all the water off to this area might not be as bad. And I guess the hose can be pushed on and up then pulled down to get it on the pump because it is only about 5 inches long, and will replace both while in there. |
