I have been having an intermittent problem with fuel draining back into the tank. When I make a cold start sometimes the engine will die after about 45 seconds. The primary filter will then be anywhere from 2” to 5” down from the top… I top it off and it starts after a bit of cranking. This has happened off and on for several months. I do not think it is a fuel line air leak, the filter is full or only down ½” when I stop after a ½ hour run. Yesterday morning I pulled the check valve on the bulkhead and discovered that one of the body washers was not sealing well so I replaced it. In the evening I went to mover the bus and the same problem was back. This morning I went out to warm up for a trip and it happened again. One thing I noted… there is a 45 degree fitting on the bulkhead so the check valve sits at an angle. With “top” up the flap in the valve could hang open against the spring… possible? Yes, I pressure tested the tank and lines… about 15 pounds of air for 10 minutes. No detectable leaks, but air is a lot smaller than diesel. A better way to do this? Thanks, Peter E |

OK, I ran a test running up a long grade. There was a small amount of air in the primary, about 1". the manual says that indicates an air leak. any ideas about how to find such a small leak? any knowledge of any fittings in the tunnel? Thanks, Peter E |
