I have this box that is mounted in my bus and I know all my 12 volt stuff has the fuses in it and also the Gen which you see to the left goes to this panel and runs the 110 volt stuff. I dont think it charges the house batteries and if it did it does not do it now. I can find any information about this panel. Does anyone know anything about this panel or box?? If not Im going to remove it and put my own charger in for house batteries and breaker box for the 110 volt stuff. And yes Gomer I did use the word STUFF !! LOL Thanks Steve (Message edited by 57_gmc on January 29, 2011) |

Steven The charger that was in the unit was probably one of the old style that kept charging the batteries at all times. I would leave the box in place so you don't have to rewire the electrical stuff and now is the chance to put in a 3 stage charger which is much easier on the batteries. They will last a lot longer as well. Bill |

Steven It looks a lot like mine. If you open the door is there a row of circut breakers and on the right of them is there a 12 volt fuse section? I disabled the builtin charger and installed a Freedom 3000 inverter/charger. It gives me 110v AC and 3 stage charging for up to 3 battery banks. Best move I ever made. Bill |

Bill I think you you got it right!! When you open the door the first breakers are the Main and the 110 volt ones and then there is a row of 12 volt ones. And Gomer you do see a transfer switch and it is all MANUAL!! I love it ... I think this box was made in Canada if that will help.. Thanks Steve |

Steven It sure sounds like mine. Mine was made in Canada so that makes it even more possible it is the same one. They have been out of business for many years now. It does have a builtin charger of the old style but if you open up the 110volt side I think the power for the charger is on breaker #3. You will see one small black wire added to one of the breakers. Just disconnect and tape it then use your external battery charger in place of the orginal one. Like I mentioned the 3 stage type is best and a lot easier on the batteries. Bill |

Thanks Bill I think you are right on the breaker. That is the only thing my is not doing is keep the house batteries up... The only other problem I might run into is someone in the past did not keep the 110 volt breakers tight and the Main breaker has burn up the bus bar a little that is why I was thinking of pulling this unit out and just rewire the 110 and 12 volt. Just got done reworking the Onan on it which has zillion hours on it but it running like a kitten now... Thanks for the info and any help I will take as Im new to my bus and loving it... Thanks Steve |

Steve that is what I did re-wired it all because now I know what goes where in the 110 circuit and am working to do the same with the DC side. Dave |

Steven If the bus bar is burnt at all you should replace the box. A burnt connection will cause resistance and with that you get heat and eventually fire. I'm sure you don't want that. It will be a lot of work but worth the peace of mind in the end. Bill |

Steven If you give the make and model of the converter I may be able to help. I'm going through the same process with my '66 Buffalo. It had an old Magnatek 6300A Model 6345 which will not charge batteries properly, boils the liquid out. I'm replacing it with a conversion kit that makes all DC circuits filtered and includes a 4-stage smart charger. The AC circuits are unaffected. I don't have the kit yet but it is supposed to be an easy slip-in fit with only about four wires to disconnect and reconnect. The kit was $203 from sales@bestconverter.com with free shipping. |

Jim, I use a WFCO 9855 55 Amp Power Converter. It provides all my needs while parked, along with 3 stage charging. I use to service my batteries once every 3 months with the old 'smart charger' I had, but with this unit it's been 2 1/2 years since I've had to add any water. Needless to say, I'm very pleased with it's 3 stage charging at up to 55a. http://www.wfcoelectronics.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=51&Itemid=78 |

Well, Jim, in that case.... We'll digress back to the subject. WFCO Power Center: http://www.wfcoelectronics.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=46&Itemid=77 Or, The WFCO Distribution Center: http://www.wfcoelectronics.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=98&Itemid=50 |

Jim, The WFCO 9855 is a power panel, or at least part of an AC/DC power panel. As I recall it is a conversion for an older Magnatek 6355 power panel/charger. |

Gus, You may be right about being a conversion for the Magnatek, but I assure you it isn't a power panel. It is just the converter and 3 stage charger. I use it on my homemade breaker setup. I don't like buying, changing and keeping fuses so I uilt my distribution panel using Bluesea breakers, lexan and some LED's. The converter can be mounted anywhere, as long as it get's enough clean air for cooling. |

Dal, I have an older Magnatek 6355 power panel/charger right behind the driver's seat which has filtered DC, unfiltered DC and AC with breakers and fuses! I'm not sure what all that means and have no wiring diagram nor did the POs. I'm adding a PD4645 45 Amp Converter Upgrade Kit which makes it all filtered DC and the same AC as before plus the 4-stage charger. I'm doing this mostly for the charger and to get rid of two kinds of DC which is confusing. I don't really understand why this thing has AC circuits since there is already an AC breaker box under the bus? However, it came this way and I can live with it. |
