I have 2 doors without the cables or a place to put them in because of the 5C Saudi back door replacement fix with a bay door. There is just a door but nowhere to put the cable etc, nor do I want to.

Are there any lifts out there that will work on these up lift type MCI 5C "Pantograph"doors coach that will lift 80 lbs. Should I get one that is 80lbs of lift or 1 for each side and what length. Have any of you done this yet?

I also need the Big Pantograph hinge for the a Front bay door on the drivers side. Can you still get these or is it hit and miss?

Dave

Dave, I have a couple of almost new gas struts built to pick up and hold the bay doors on a Prevost XL II.

To let you know how strong they are, one is strong enough to hold up the top engine bay door on my 'wreck' well enough that I just about have to help the wife pull it back down when she's done cleaning and polishing the engine!

If you want them, make me an offer beyond my wildest dreams!

By the way, the doors you are talking about on the MC8 are called "Pantograph" doors.

Thanks Dal but I have a place I can get them, I was just wondering if anyof you had used them instead of the original cable and spring setup and if you have how long are they. If the door is 80lbs. then do I use 1 or 2- 40's etc.

Dave,

The power needed for the struts depends on the geometry of the setup.

Struts don't have a long stroke so there has to be some leverage involved in the design.

I've had some doors impossible to rig with struts because of the angles and closed positions of the struts and doors.

Two 40s won't necessarily lift an 80 lb door.

It will be more like 2-160 lbs struts Prevost and Eagle both use 2-160 lbs for each door

good luck

I used them on all 6 of my bay doors on the 4905. I think I used a pair of 250 lb ones on each of the front four doors(6 ft long), and a pair of the 200 lb ones on the back 2 doors(5 ft long). The struts attach to the original torsion bar spring attachment point which is only about 3 - 4 inches from the pivot point, so it takes a good bit to push them up. I've also noticed that they need help when the weather is very cold, but they do keep them up once open.

RC I do thank You but I have that Link from you before and check it but I can probably get them locally for a little less or even used. I do go there on line often to check items ad see what they have.

Dave,

GMCs use pantograph doors from the 4107 onward which, I assume, are pretty much the same as on MCIs and are REALLY heavy. I have one torsion bar missing on one of my doors and I can barely lift it.
